Biography
Leading Stoker Owen Richards served aboard HMS Barham, a Queen Elizabeth-class battleship. He was among the 862 crew members who perished when Barham was torpedoed by U-331 in the Mediterranean on 25 November 1941. The ship capsized and exploded within minutes. The sinking was kept secret by the Admiralty for months. His family in Cardiff only received official confirmation weeks later. His name is on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
