Biography
Second Engineer Oswald Johnson from Liverpool's Toxteth district sailed on merchant ships throughout the Battle of the Atlantic. Born to a Jamaican father and English mother, he had been at sea since age 16. On 22 October 1942, his ship SS Empire Dorado was torpedoed by U-443 while in convoy off the coast of North Africa. He remained at his post in the engine room, keeping the pumps running to give others time to evacuate, but went down with the ship. He was 25.

Второй инженер Освальд Джонсон из ливерпульского района Токстет ходил на торговых судах в Битве за Атлантику. Родившийся от отца-ямайца и английской матери, он вышел в море в 16 лет. 22 октября 1942 года его судно было торпедировано подводной лодкой U-443. Он остался на посту в машинном отделении.
