Biography
Staff Sergeant Norman Hartley served with REME, keeping tanks and vehicles operational through the campaign from Normandy to the Elbe. His workshop unit followed close behind the front lines, repairing battle-damaged Shermans and Churchills under fire. A skilled engineer from Leeds, he returned to the city after the war and established a successful engineering firm that repaired industrial machinery.
