Biography

Captain Norman Finkelstein, born in Brighton to a Jewish family of Polish origin, was recruited by the Special Operations Executive for his fluent French and German. He was parachuted into occupied France in 1943 to organize sabotage networks ahead of D-Day. Captured by the Gestapo in April 1944 after being betrayed, he was tortured but revealed nothing about his networks. He was executed at Buchenwald concentration camp in September 1944 and posthumously awarded the George Cross.

Капитан Норман Финкельштейн, родившийся в Брайтоне в еврейской семье польского происхождения, был завербован УСО за свободное владение французским и немецким языками. В 1943 году он был заброшен в оккупированную Францию для организации диверсионных сетей. Схваченный гестапо, он был казнён в Бухенвальде в сентябре 1944 года.
