Nikolaos Papandreou

Petty Officer Nikolaos Papandreou served in the Royal Hellenic Navy, operating from British ports after Greece fell to the Axis. His destroyer escorted convoys in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Greek sailors who served under British operational command made a little-known but significant contribution to the Allied naval effort. After the Greek Civil War, Nikolaos chose to remain in Britain and settled in Brighton, where he opened a small restaurant that became a gathering place for the Greek community.
