Biography
Major Nikolai Sokolov served with the Soviet Naval Infantry defending approaches to Murmansk. His unit fought above the Arctic Circle, repelling German mountain troops trying to cut the Allied convoy supply line. Awarded the Order of the Red Star for leading a counterattack in 1943. He later settled in Southampton in the 1970s.
