Biography
Nancy Hargreaves was recruited by the Special Operations Executive in 1943 due to her fluent French. She was parachuted into occupied France where she served as a courier for the Resistance, carrying messages between SOE networks. She narrowly escaped capture by the Gestapo twice, once hiding in a wine cellar for three days. After liberation, she was awarded the Croix de Guerre by France and the MBE by Britain. She lived quietly in Brighton after the war, her story only becoming widely known after declassification of SOE files in the 1990s.
