Mordechai Stern

Lance Corporal Mordechai Stern served in the Jewish Brigade Group, the only Jewish military formation to fight in the war under its own flag. Formed in 1944, the Brigade fought in Italy and advanced into Austria. After VE Day, Mordechai used his position to help Holocaust survivors in displaced persons camps. He came to London in 1948 and became a prominent figure in the Jewish veterans' community, ensuring that the story of the Jewish Brigade — and the six million who perished — was never forgotten.
