Biography
Naik Mohammed Hussain served with the 8th Punjab Regiment in the Burma and Malaya campaigns. He fought in the desperate defence of Malaya against the Japanese advance in 1942 and was one of the fortunate few to be evacuated before Singapore fell. He was then redeployed to Burma, fighting in the Arakan and at Meiktila. After Indian independence and the Partition, he emigrated to Leeds in the 1950s, joining the growing Pakistani community. He worked in the textile mills of Beeston and was a respected elder at the Makkah Masjid mosque. He attended Remembrance Day services every year wearing his Burma Star.

Наик Мохаммед Хуссейн служил в 8-м Пенджабском полку в Бирме и Малайе. Сражался при обороне Малайи в 1942 году и был эвакуирован до падения Сингапура. Затем воевал в Бирме. После раздела Индии эмигрировал в Лидс в 1950-х годах. Работал на текстильных фабриках и был уважаемым старейшиной в мечети. Каждый год посещал службы в День памяти со своей Бирманской звездой.
