Biography
Major Mikhail Gromov flew Il-2 Shturmovik ground-attack aircraft with the 16th Air Army. The Il-2 was the most-produced military aircraft in history, and its pilots flew extremely dangerous low-altitude missions against German tanks and fortifications. Mikhail flew over 200 combat sorties and was shot down three times, surviving each time. He settled in London in the 1990s.
