Biography
Mary O'Brien from Bootle operated a height-finder instrument in an anti-aircraft battery defending Liverpool during the Blitz. The May Blitz of 1941 devastated her home neighbourhood, destroying her family's house and killing several neighbours. Despite personal loss, she continued to serve with distinction, helping to direct fire against Luftwaffe bombers attacking the docks and city centre. She served throughout the war and later became a prominent campaigner for the recognition of women's wartime contributions.

Мэри О'Брайен из Бутла управляла высотомером в зенитной батарее, защищавшей Ливерпуль во время Блица. Майский блиц 1941 года разрушил её родной район, уничтожив дом её семьи. Несмотря на личные потери, она продолжала служить с отличием, помогая направлять огонь против бомбардировщиков Люфтваффе. После войны стала активным борцом за признание вклада женщин в военные действия.
