Biography

Staff Nurse Margaret MacDonald served with Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps through the North Africa and Italian campaigns. She tended to wounded soldiers at field hospitals near El Alamein, Tunis, and Monte Cassino, often working 18-hour shifts under shellfire. She was awarded the Royal Red Cross for her exceptional devotion to duty during the Anzio landings, where she helped evacuate wounded under direct enemy fire. She returned to Glasgow and trained a generation of nurses at the Royal Infirmary.
