Biography
Captain Maeve Brennan from Belfast served with the Special Operations Executive's F Section, parachuting into occupied France in early 1944 to work as a wireless operator for the "Jockey" resistance network. Operating from a series of safe houses around Lyon, she transmitted vital intelligence about German troop movements ahead of D-Day while constantly evading Gestapo direction-finding equipment. After the liberation of France, she was awarded the Croix de Guerre by the French government. She returned to Belfast where she taught French and never spoke publicly about her wartime service until the 1990s.
