Biography
Mabel Crawford from East Belfast joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service and trained as an anti-aircraft battery operator at Lough Neagh. She was part of the mixed batteries that defended Belfast during the devastating Blitz of April-May 1941. Later posted to the continent after D-Day, she served with ack-ack units defending the Rhine crossings. She was one of Belfast's most decorated women veterans.
