Lydia Kuznetsova

Senior Lieutenant Lydia Kuznetsova served as a signals officer in the Red Army, working on communications during the Battle of Stalingrad. She maintained radio contact between the 62nd Army's headquarters and front-line units during the most intense fighting in the factory district. Kuznetsova was responsible for coding and decoding urgent messages and often worked under direct enemy fire. After Stalingrad, she served through the liberation of Ukraine and Poland, ending the war in Germany. In the 1990s, she moved to Brighton to be near her son, who worked at the University of Sussex.
