Biography
Kathleen Doherty was one of the thousands of women who worked at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast during the war, welding hulls for corvettes, aircraft carriers, and merchant ships. She survived the Belfast Blitz of April and May 1941, when the Luftwaffe targeted the shipyard and surrounding areas, killing over 1,000 people. Despite the devastation, she returned to work the next day. By war's end, the yard had produced or repaired over 3,000 vessels.
