Biography
Gunner Joseph Reid was part of the Singapore garrison when it surrendered to the Japanese on 15 February 1942 — the largest surrender in British military history. He spent over three years as a prisoner of war, working on the infamous Burma-Thailand railway. Joseph endured terrible conditions: disease, starvation, and beatings. He survived and returned to Glasgow, but his health never fully recovered.
