Biography

Nursing Sister Jessie Cameron served aboard hospital ships in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, caring for wounded servicemen evacuated from the front lines. She was aboard HMS Aba when it was attacked by enemy aircraft off the coast of Algeria. Despite the attack, Jessie and her fellow nurses continued treating the wounded throughout the bombardment. Her bravery and compassion under fire earned her a commendation from the Admiralty. She spent her post-war years at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
