Biography
Jean Carter from Nottingham was recruited into the Special Operations Executive at 19. She was trained in wireless telegraphy and parachuted into occupied France in 1944 to serve as a radio operator for the Stationer network in the Jura mountains. She transmitted messages under constant danger of German direction-finding equipment. After the war, she never spoke publicly of her work until the 1990s.
