Biography

Havildar Jamil Rahman served with a mule company of the Royal Indian Army Service Corps in the Burma campaign. His unit supplied frontline positions in the Arakan and during the Battles of Imphal and Kohima, navigating treacherous mountain paths that no vehicle could traverse. The mule companies were the lifeline of jungle operations. After the war, Jamil studied veterinary science in England and settled in Oxford, where he practised until the 1980s.
