Biography
James Patel served with the Royal Army Medical Corps in the Italian campaign, treating wounded soldiers at Monte Cassino and during the advance up the Italian peninsula. Born to an Indian father and British mother in Brighton, he experienced discrimination but proved himself under fire. His unit treated soldiers regardless of nationality, including German and Italian POWs. He was awarded the Military Medal for carrying wounded soldiers to safety under enemy fire at Cassino. After the war he practised as a GP in Brighton for 40 years.

Джеймс Патель служил в Королевском медицинском корпусе армии в итальянской кампании, оказывая помощь раненым солдатам при Монте-Кассино. Рождённый от индийского отца и британской матери в Брайтоне, он столкнулся с дискриминацией, но проявил себя под огнём. Он был награждён Военной медалью за вынос раненых из-под огня при Кассино. После войны он работал врачом общей практики в Брайтоне 40 лет.
