Biography
Chief Engineer James Hart served in the Merchant Navy throughout the war. He made multiple Atlantic crossings and three Arctic Convoy runs to Murmansk. In September 1944, SS Empire Heritage was torpedoed by U-482 off the coast of Ireland. The ship sank rapidly, taking James and 112 shipmates. Merchant Navy personnel suffered the highest casualty rate of any British service — one in four did not return. His family in Brighton preserves his memory.

Главный инженер Джеймс Харт служил в торговом флоте. Совершил множество атлантических переходов и три рейса в Арктических конвоях. В сентябре 1944 года пароход «Эмпайр Херитидж» был торпедирован. Каждый четвёртый моряк торгового флота не вернулся с войны.
