Biography
Jack Peel embarked from Southampton on 6 June 1944 as part of the D-Day landings on Gold Beach. His battalion faced stiff resistance but secured the beachhead by evening. He fought through Normandy and into the Low Countries, participating in Operation Market Garden. After the war, he worked on the Southampton docks and took part in every D-Day anniversary commemoration until 2018.
