Biography
Lieutenant Colonel Jack Churchill was perhaps the most eccentric soldier of the war. He went into battle carrying a longbow, a Scottish broadsword, and bagpipes. He is credited with the last confirmed kill with a longbow in warfare, during an ambush in France in 1940. He led Commando raids in Norway and Italy, was captured twice and escaped both times. After the war, he took up surfing and became the first person to ride the Severn Bore. A Southampton military enthusiasts group registered his extraordinary story.
