Biography
Lance Sergeant Jack Braithwaite from the Meadows area of Nottingham served with the Sherwood Foresters, the county's own regiment. He fought through the North African campaign at El Alamein and the invasion of Sicily before being killed at the Battle of Monte Cassino in February 1944. His company was attempting to cross the Rapido River under devastating German fire when he was hit. He was awarded the Military Medal posthumously for his bravery in earlier actions at Salerno. He is buried at Cassino War Cemetery.

Младший сержант Джек Брейтуэйт из района Мидоуз в Ноттингеме служил в полку Шервудских лесничих. Он прошёл Североафриканскую кампанию при Эль-Аламейне и вторжение на Сицилию. Погиб в битве при Монте-Кассино в феврале 1944 года при попытке форсировать реку Рапидо. Посмертно награждён Военной медалью. Похоронен на военном кладбище Кассино.
