Biography
Guardsman Ivor Jones served with the Welsh Guards and was among those who landed in Normandy in June 1944. He fought through the bocage country and participated in Operation Goodwood, the armoured offensive east of Caen. Ivor was killed in action during the fierce fighting near Hechtel in Belgium on 11 September 1944, during the Guards Armoured Division's advance toward Arnhem. He was 29 years old. He is buried at the Leopoldsburg War Cemetery in Belgium. His family in Cardiff received his medals and kept his letters home.
