Biography
Havildar Herbert Singh served with the 14th Punjab Regiment during the Burma campaign. He fought at the Battle of Imphal and the subsequent advance into Burma. Wounded during the crossing of the Irrawaddy River in 1945, he recovered in a military hospital in India. After partition and independence, he emigrated to Liverpool in 1951, where he ran a corner shop and became a respected elder in the Sikh community.

Хавильдар Герберт Сингх служил в 14-м Панджабском полку во время Бирманской кампании. Он сражался в Битве при Импхале и последующем наступлении в Бирму. Раненный при переправе через реку Иравади в 1945 году, он лечился в военном госпитале в Индии. После раздела и обретения независимости эмигрировал в Ливерпуль в 1951 году, где держал магазин и стал уважаемым старейшиной в сикхской общине.
