Biography
Captain Henry Masters commanded merchant ships on the Atlantic convoy routes throughout the war. Merchant seamen faced the same dangers as the Royal Navy but without military status. His ship was torpedoed twice; he survived both times and continued sailing. Over 30,000 merchant seamen died during the war.
