Biography

Trooper Henry Clarke served with the 7th Armoured Division — the legendary "Desert Rats" — from El Alamein through Italy to the liberation of Hamburg. He crewed a Cromwell tank and was one of the few in his squadron to serve through the entire campaign without being wounded. After demobilisation he trained as an architect and settled in Brighton, where he designed several postwar housing estates.
