Biography
Sergeant Harold Greenwood from Headingley served as a tank commander in the Royal Tank Regiment. He fought in the desert war from El Alamein through Tunisia, then landed at Salerno in Italy. His Matilda tank was nicknamed "Leeds United" and saw action across three campaigns. He was awarded the Military Medal after his tank crew rescued an infantry platoon pinned down by machine gun fire at Medenine in Tunisia. He returned to Leeds after the war and worked at the Kirkstall Forge for thirty years, occasionally joking that he went from driving tanks to making them.

Сержант Гарольд Гринвуд из Хедингли служил командиром танка в Королевском танковом полку. Воевал в пустыне от Эль-Аламейна через Тунис, затем высадился при Салерно. Его танк назывался «Лидс Юнайтед». Награждён Военной медалью за спасение пехотного взвода при Меденине. После войны тридцать лет проработал на Киркстоллском заводе.
