Biography
Havildar Harjinder Gill served with the 14th Punjab Regiment in the Burma campaign. A Sikh soldier from Jullundur, he fought in the Arakan and at the siege of Imphal, where the Japanese advance into India was finally halted. His regiment suffered heavy casualties but held the line during some of the war's most brutal fighting. After Indian independence in 1947, he emigrated to Birmingham and worked in the foundries of the Black Country. He was a founding member of the Smethwick Sikh Temple and attended remembrance services every November.

Хавильдар Харджиндер Гилл служил в 14-м Пенджабском полку в Бирманской кампании. Сикхский солдат из Джаллундура, он воевал в Аракане и при осаде Импхала, где японское наступление на Индию было остановлено. После обретения Индией независимости эмигрировал в Бирмингем и работал на литейных заводах Блэк-кантри. Был одним из основателей Сикхского храма в Сметвике.
