Biography

Captain Hamish Grant was recruited into the SOE from the Scots Guards. Fluent in Norwegian from pre-war climbing expeditions, he was parachuted into occupied Norway in 1943 to organise resistance networks and sabotage German heavy water production facilities. He spent 18 months operating behind enemy lines, surviving several close encounters with German patrols. His work contributed to the disruption of Germany's nuclear research programme. Hamish returned to Glasgow after the war and became a mountaineering instructor.
