Biography
Jemadar Gopal Sharma served with the 5th Mahratta Light Infantry in the Burma campaign. His regiment fought in the Arakan offensive and the advance down the Irrawaddy valley. Gopal was killed during the recapture of Rangoon in May 1945, just days before the Japanese surrender in Burma. His family settled in Leeds, and his great-grandson submitted his story.
