Biography

Gladys Woodward was a fire guard in Birmingham during the Blitz. On the night of 19 November 1940, when the city centre was devastated by incendiary and high explosive bombs, she organised fire-fighting teams to save the Bull Ring market area. She was awarded the George Medal for crawling into a burning building to rescue trapped workers. She continued as a firefighter until 1945.

Глэдис Вудворд была пожарной в Бирмингеме во время Блица. В ночь 19 ноября 1940 года она организовала пожарные команды для спасения района рынка Булл-Ринг. Награждена Медалью Георга за спасение людей из горящего здания.
