Fedor Ivanovich Gerasimov

During the battle for the village of Tyurlitz on March 28, 1945, Guards Junior Sergeant Gerasimov proved himself a courageous and resourceful machine gunner. He was the first to break into the outskirts of the village and, with machine gun fire and grenades, killed six enemy soldiers, including two who were preparing to open fire with Faust rounds on approaching Soviet tanks. When the squad leader was seriously wounded in the battle, Comrade Gerasimov carried him to cover under heavy enemy fire and assumed command of the squad. Comrade Gerasimov is worthy of the government award of the Order of the Red Star.
