Biography
Georgy Arakelovich Grigoryan served with the 89th Armenian Rifle Division (later renamed Tamanskaya Division). He fought in the defence of the Caucasus, then advanced westward through Ukraine and Poland to Berlin. His division was one of the first to enter the Tiergarten district of Berlin in May 1945. An ethnic Armenian who grew up in Tbilisi, he represented the multinational character of the Soviet war effort. He settled in Edinburgh in 2000.

Георгий Аракелович Григорян служил в 89-й Армянской стрелковой дивизии (позднее Таманская дивизия). Сражался в обороне Кавказа, затем продвигался на запад через Украину и Польшу к Берлину. Его дивизия одной из первых вошла в район Тиргартен в Берлине. Этнический армянин, выросший в Тбилиси, он олицетворял многонациональный характер советского военного вклада. Обосновался в Эдинбурге в 2000 году.
