Biography
Major George Fenwick led a company of the Cambridgeshire Regiment in the defence of Malaya and Singapore. A fellow of King's College before the war, he was captured when Singapore fell in February 1942 and endured three years as a prisoner of war on the Burma Railway. Despite brutal conditions, he organised secret education classes for his men and maintained morale through the darkest days. He died of tropical disease in Kanchanaburi camp in 1943. His name is inscribed on the Kranji War Memorial in Singapore.

Майор Джордж Фенвик командовал ротой Кембриджширского полка при обороне Малайи и Сингапура. До войны — член Кингс-колледжа. Попал в плен при падении Сингапура в феврале 1942 года и три года провёл военнопленным на Бирманской железной дороге. Несмотря на жестокие условия, организовывал тайные занятия для солдат. Умер от тропической болезни в лагере Канчанабури в 1943 году. Его имя высечено на военном мемориале Кранджи в Сингапуре.
