Biography
George Whitfield served in the Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal section during the London Blitz, defusing unexploded ordnance across the capital. Between September 1940 and May 1941, his unit dealt with over 200 unexploded bombs, often working through the night under blackout conditions. He was awarded the George Medal for his courage. After the war he worked for the London County Council and lived in Lewisham.

Джордж Уитфилд служил в сапёрном подразделении Королевских инженеров по обезвреживанию бомб во время Лондонского блица, обезвреживая неразорвавшиеся снаряды по всей столице. Между сентябрём 1940 и маем 1941 года его подразделение обезвредило более 200 неразорвавшихся бомб, часто работая ночью в условиях светомаскировки. Он был награждён Медалью Джорджа за мужество. После войны он работал в Лондонском совете графства и жил в Льюишеме.
