Biography
Petty Officer George Baker served aboard HMS Matchless, a destroyer that escorted numerous Arctic Convoys to Murmansk and took part in the Battle of the North Cape. He witnessed the sinking of the Scharnhorst on Boxing Day 1943. Southampton-born, he returned home after the war and worked at the Vosper Thornycroft shipyard. He was instrumental in establishing contact between Arctic Convoy veterans in Hampshire and their Russian counterparts.

Старшина Джордж Бейкер служил на борту эсминца «Мэтчлесс», который эскортировал многочисленные арктические конвои в Мурманск и участвовал в бою у мыса Нордкап. Он стал свидетелем потопления «Шарнхорста» 26 декабря 1943 года. Родился в Саутгемптоне, после войны вернулся домой и работал на верфи Воспер Торникрофт.
