Biography
Sergeant George Albert Norton from Nottingham served with the Glider Pilot Regiment, one of the most dangerous roles in the British Army. Glider pilots were expected to land their aircraft under fire and then fight as infantry. He was killed during the invasion of Sicily in July 1943 — Operation Husky — when his Horsa glider was released too far from shore and crashed into the sea. His body was never recovered.
