Galina Morozova

Private Galina Morozova served in an anti-aircraft battery defending Leningrad during the 872-day siege. At just 16, she volunteered as a searchlight operator, helping to illuminate enemy aircraft for the anti-aircraft guns. Her battery shot down seven German planes during the siege. Morozova endured the starvation and freezing conditions alongside the civilian population, surviving on a daily bread ration of 250 grams. After the siege was broken in January 1944, she continued serving until the end of the war. She moved to Cardiff in 2003 to live with her great-granddaughter.
