Biography
Leading Stoker Frederick Charles Barrett served aboard the destroyer HMS Cavalier on convoy escort duties in the Atlantic and Arctic from 1943 to 1945. He endured the brutal conditions of the Arctic run to Murmansk, where temperatures could reach -40°C and ice formed on every surface. After demobilisation he worked in Southampton docks for 40 years and was a regular at HMS Cavalier reunions.
