Frank Parker

Corporal Frank Parker served with the Sherwood Foresters, Nottingham's own regiment, during the Italian campaign. He fought at the Battles of the Gothic Line in the autumn of 1944, where his regiment broke through heavily fortified German positions in the Apennine Mountains. During one action, Frank single-handedly knocked out a machine gun position that was holding up his company's advance, earning the Military Medal. After the war he returned to Nottingham and worked in the Raleigh bicycle factory.
