Biography

Sergeant Frank Millward embarked from Southampton on 6 June 1944 as part of the D-Day landings on Gold Beach. The Hampshire Regiment suffered heavy casualties wading ashore under mortar and machine-gun fire. Frank led his section through the beach obstacles and helped capture the village of Le Hamel by mid-morning. He fought through Normandy, the Falaise Gap, Belgium, and into Germany, surviving to see VE Day. He returned to Southampton where he worked in the merchant shipping offices for 40 years.

Сержант Фрэнк Миллуорд отплыл из Саутгемптона 6 июня 1944 года в рамках высадки на пляже Голд. Гемпширский полк понёс тяжёлые потери при высадке под миномётным и пулемётным огнём. Фрэнк провёл свой отряд через заграждения и помог захватить деревню Ле-Амель к полудню.
