Biography
Flora MacPherson was one of the first women welders at the John Brown & Company shipyard on the Clyde, where she helped build warships and merchant vessels vital to the war effort. Working long shifts in dangerous conditions, Flora and her fellow women workers were essential to keeping Britain's naval strength intact. After the war she remained in shipbuilding until the 1960s.
