Biography

Sapper Ernest Wilson served with the 79th Armoured Division — the "Funnies" — operating specialised armoured vehicles designed to overcome beach defences on D-Day. He drove a Sherman Crab flail tank, which used rotating chains to detonate mines and clear a path for the infantry. These vehicles were crucial to the success of the British and Canadian beach landings. Ernest lived in Nottingham.

Сапёр Эрнест Уилсон служил в 79-й бронетанковой дивизии — «Забавниках». Управлял танком «Шерман Краб» с минным тралом, расчищавшим путь пехоте в День Д. Жил в Ноттингеме.
