Biography
Lance Bombardier Elsie Barker served in the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) with a heavy anti-aircraft battery defending industrial targets in Yorkshire. Women in mixed batteries operated radar, searchlights, and height-finders, guiding the guns that male soldiers fired. Elsie's battery helped defend the steel works and railway yards that were vital to the war effort. She remained proud that women proved they could serve alongside men under fire.

Младший бомбардир Элси Баркер служила в ATS (Вспомогательная территориальная служба) при зенитной батарее, защищавшей промышленные объекты Йоркшира. Женщины в смешанных батареях управляли радарами, прожекторами и дальномерами. Батарея Элси помогала защищать сталелитейные заводы и железнодорожные узлы. Она гордилась тем, что женщины доказали свою способность служить наравне с мужчинами под огнём.
