Biography
Private Elena Volkova joined the partisan movement at age seventeen after her village in the Bryansk region was destroyed by German forces. Operating in the dense Bryansk forests, her unit sabotaged railways, ambushed supply columns, and gathered intelligence for the Red Army. After liberation she completed her education and became a teacher. She moved to Cardiff in the 2000s to be near her grandchildren and was an active member of the local Russian community.

Рядовая Елена Волкова вступила в партизанское движение в семнадцать лет после того, как её деревня в Брянской области была уничтожена немецкими войсками. Действуя в густых брянских лесах, её отряд минировал железные дороги, устраивал засады на колонны снабжения и собирал разведданные для Красной армии. После освобождения завершила образование и стала учительницей. Переехала в Кардифф в 2000-х, чтобы быть ближе к внукам.
