Biography
Section Officer Eileen Younghusband worked in the No. 10 Group Filter Room during the Battle of Britain, one of the plotters who tracked incoming Luftwaffe raids on a giant table map. Her job was to filter radar returns — distinguishing real aircraft from false echoes — and relay this information to the operations room where fighter squadrons were directed. The accuracy of this work was literally a matter of life and death. She witnessed the entire Battle of Britain from the filter room. After the war she settled near Southampton and wrote extensively about the WAAF's contribution.
