Eileen Murphy

Eileen Murphy was a nursing sister from Walton who served with Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service. She landed in Normandy just weeks after D-Day, working in field hospitals treating casualties from the fighting in the bocage. She followed the advance through France and into Germany, nursing wounded soldiers and liberated concentration camp survivors. The horrors she witnessed at Bergen-Belsen stayed with her for life, and she later spoke at schools about her experiences to ensure younger generations understood the war's human cost.
